CU Heart Gems

Keeping with the Valentine theme today I have a set of gems that I created with this great filter I found on Filter Forge called Gemstones by angelize.  I love this filter and can't believe I haven't found it before!  Expect to see lots more gem shapes and possibly some PS gem styles in the future!  The set includes the colored gems and settings in gold and silver.  I also played around with making a stick pin today that I threw in the .zip too.  The actual pin is intact but I cut out a part of it for this preview and used the dodge and burn tools to make it look like the pin was going through the cloth.  Cool eh?
StickPinExample
I received an email from a reader today who stated that my elements that were smaller than 2" (buttons, alphas, etc) were unusable to her because they were pixilated.  Do any of you experience this?  She said that she was blowing the elements up to 200% which in my opinion was going to make any element unusable, regardless of it's size.  Can you guys weigh in on this for me?  I hate to think that my things are not being used because they appear distorted.  But this is the first time I have heard of this and I have used my own elements in kits and they seem fine to me, and I know others have used my buttons and other small elements in kits and have not complained about them being pixilated   I would greatly appreciate any comments, good or bad!
Anywho, I gotta get ready for work.  Here's the preview and links for today's freebie:

I've never had any problems with your CU items.. You do great work, and I'm always pleased with whatever I download from you.. (Thanks for the gems, too!)

I've never had a problem either! Thanks for all the goodies; I love them.

I did an experiment and opened some of your buttons and then opened some things from other kits from other designers. Then I zoomed in equally and I did not see any difference. I think your stuff is very good quality. Maybe there was just a glitch with her program or download or something.

You stuff is always great. Maybe she has her dpi set to high or something?

Thank you for the wonderful goodies. Although I have just recently joined your list of fans, the items I have are top quality. Any item will appear pixelated at 200%.

Thank you yet again for another wonderful gift. I have no problems with the size of small elements. Buttons are normally designed and real size and there arent many buttons larger than 1 or 2 inches. Actually never seen one. If anything yours have room to size down. All the ones I looked at were at 300 dpi and looked good at 100%. If you wnbted to use them bigger you would really need to look at brooches etc as nothing looks good if just enlarged.

I love your stuff and use it frequently. I never have had any problems! Very good quality!

Thanks for the lovely gems!

As for the pixelated thing, she really shouldn't be resizing a 1" button to a 3" button? We designers usually make things at the size they are intended to be used, as some programs don't give people the option to resize. Alphas I can see - I make all mine at 3" so people can use them as titles, but buttons or brads or beads should not need to be made that much bigger!
My only suggestion is to make your smallest element 3", but then people who have to make them much smaller so as to have them appear true to life will find the quality degrade. So just keep making things the size you think they should be on a 12" 300ppi layout, and maybe put a statement to that point in your TOU - "all elements are intended to be used in the size they are created. Resizing significantly may affect image quality" or something like that. Hmmm, I should add that to MY tou!
You're doing a great job, don't worry!

I love these gems. They are exactly what I've been looking for! Thank you. I love everything you make and never have had a problem!

pamela said...

TY for the gems!!

Whenever you enlarge an item from it's original intended size, you are stretching the pixels and some distortion will occur! Programs like Photoshop can do bicubic remapping to try to smooth the stretch but it will still leave some blur or distortion. She may not understand this and assume you can enlarge anything without incurring a loss of quality...but just like trying to blow up a polaroid to an 8x10...it's not going to be anywhere near original quality, the larger you go.

Herald said...

I love all of your CU items and find them to be of very high quality. You put a lot of hard work & effort into each of them!!

NOTHING should be zoomed to 200% of actual size. Of course it will look distorted/pixelated if you try to increase the size that much. The user who is having the issue needs to understand that you just can't take an item and try to make it that much larger without losing quality -- and that holds true of ANY designer's graphics.

Keep on doin' what you are doin' sweety, we love your stuff!! (and THANK YOU!!)

txbubbles said...

I have never had a problem with any of your creations. I don't understand why anyone would want to have a button that size! Personally, I do as you usually do and make elements on the large size, you can easily size down. Thanks for these wonderful gems!

first of all thank you for the gems and lovely pin.

i tried enlarging you alpha beads and got them to 6x6 aprox. with no trouble. the only thing i did notice was a little blurring around the letters. so i cant understand what the person is talking about. your things have never given me a problem so just keep doing what your doing, it works for me and others as well.

Angela said...

fabulous gems Deb thank you. I love the way you did the cloth - will have to play with that idea.
As for your elements - who wants to blow up a button that big? Stick with how you do it now. If the items are used at designed size or smaller they are wonderful

I love your stuff! No problems. Appreciate all your hard work. Thanks!

This is so pretty !! your creations inspire me to make new stuff all the time. thank you so much for sharing. and I am having no problems with your creations as far as size or anything else , I use psp though don't know if that makes a diffence. anyways keep em comming hehe :)

Your products are great! Any item that is enlarged beyond 100% is going to lose quality. Thanks so much for offering us such wonderful products! :)

Deatles said...

These heart gems are awesome...and I LOVE the pin - thank you sooo much!

As far as the sizing issue??? I've read through the comments and I share EVERYONE's opinion - why in the world would one find it necessary to blow up an element by 200%??? I've usually had to downsize if anything. Your gifts are PERFECT!!!

Maybe this person is using PSP and sizing with the pixel resize instead of the smart size??? I remember having that problem before I started using PS - or shall I say "tried" to use PS. LOL - Have a great day, and THANK YOU.

Fran98765 said...

thanks for the gems, they're great. I have had no pixelation issues with your things in the past. Anything blown up 200% should be expected to be pixellated in some fashion. What does she need with buttons that big anyway??

Alisa said...

tI have never had a problem with any of your things looking pixilated. I can't even imagine how big her button is going to look on her layout, if she blows it up to 200%! Also, it is my understanding that images in .png format don't get pixilated...isn't that why we use that format? Could she be saving things as a .jpg and then trying to resize them? This would definitely cause pixilation...just a thought :o)

Thanks for ALL you do!

Jenn said...

your stuff is always huge...I usually size them down when I use them..I appreciate all the effort you put into ALL your items...even if I don't use them all :)

Love the gems - thank you! I can't imagine wanting a 6" gem or alpha - I think your sizing is perfect.

Valerian70 said...

I think your element sizes are pretty much rstand why you would need to resize to 200% on anything, I'm sure there is reason for it but it isn;t advisable.

Thanks for these great blingy hearts, they are fabulous

Thank you so much!Your stuff is great...please keep up the good work!

Deanna said...

Haha, I actually took one of your buttons, increased the size to 200% of the original and then zoomed in to 200% view and it was just starting to look pixelated to me.... (yeah, I'm a nerd) I'm not quite sure why you would want 4-5 inch buttons, but I'm not the most normal person... so hey! Love your stuff and have never had any problems with it being too small.

I love and appreciate all your freebies and use them quite often. As for enlarging elements:
I have bought the best from the best and any time you enlarge ANYTHING 200% more than the original size you will see the pixels in it. It is almost unavoidable unless or until we begin using forensic type programs which, well....even then....

MaryE said...

Thank you for the gem! I agree with everyone else, I've never had a problem with any of your items. I use them quite often, and they always look great!

I've been a graphic designer for over 25 yrs (digitally for over 18 yrs) and your cu art is outstanding! I have been amazed on the quality that I have seen since I found your work on the web at DA. Either they are using the previews or a second rate program that does not process png's correctly or have their printer set to draft. Keep up the great work

Lady V dZine said...

Deb, I love the gems.

I have never had a problem with pixelation on any of your CU items. Once, A LONG TIME AGO, there was ONE stray on ONE bow that you gave out, but it cleaned up and never had any other problems. I didn't complain then, and am not complaining now, because you have saved me a mint in CU products! I was taught to never look a gift horse in the mouth. Evidently, your complainer was not.

Best,

V

These are stunning Deb! Thanks so much! I haven't had any problems using your items. It's been my experience that enlarging most elements beyond 110% or so results in noticeable pixelation and degradation of quality. I don't think there's anything wrong with your items. :)

I use your stuff alot, and never had any problems with them, You are so sweet sharing all of this!!
I don't uderstand why peaople complaining about the quality, that is 100%! purhaps she would like to decorate her livingroom with them...

You keep up the good work girl!!
Tnx so much!!

I'm going to throw in my 2 cents worth also. I've used your elements, styles and other fun stuff a lot and the quality is always great and I always give you credit in my TOU.

Kris said...

I don't think there is anything wrong with your offerings. Anyone enlarging something 200% has to expect some pixelation, it's normal. I don't know why anyone would want to do this anyway. I'd say just keep making your things the way you do! And Thankyou!!

Digital Craft Cottage said...

Your elements are PERFECT. 300dpi is the norm and your size ratio on your elements is spot on.

Tammy aka bunchie said...

tyvm for ALL the great things you have created! I have used numerous things of yours and have NEVER had that problem and I use PSE 6. I think elements resized other than the size we design is going to be problem for someone but not the majority. I understand you want to make it right for everyone but sometimes, as designers we can't. I know someone who saves their designs for PS, GIMP, and PSP. But, it is also triple the work for that person. I think if someone uses another program than what most of the designs work for, then they need to find another place for what they can use. Tell them to check google for the program they use because we just can't please everyone. I will get off my soapbox before I start in on how grateful I am for all the freebies you give away and how others need to be that way too! Sign me long-winded but wanted to say my opinion.

Debb said...

I've never had one problem with anything you have made Deb. I agree with you about enlarging. That usually will destroy an image, depending on what is being done with it. Anything zoomed in to look huge will look pixilated. I think she must have a setting off somewhere or she is trying to enlarge something that shouldn't be enlarged. LOVE your work and thanks so much for sharing it with us!!

You items are great, and they are not pixillated. As far as I am concerned they shouldn't need to be blown up by 200% - they are fine the way they are, just the right size. Thanks so much, love your stuff!surses

You do great work... here's what I think... your complainer may have a pixilated problem because her screen resolution is set wrong. Doesn't have anything to do with your files... it's her settings. Your elements are A1.
