CU Paisley Overlays

Wow, you all were crazy for the paisleys!  I am so happy they were so "loved" and that so many grabbed the brush set.  I had a question from Shani who uses PSP 8 and 9 and said she could not get the pngs or abr to work in her program.  I don't know anything about PSP so I have no clue how to make a brush in PSP but she said she could not get it to work, even after resizing the pings smaller.  Can any of my PSP users help us out here?  If you know a trick or have any suggestions, just comment here on this post and I will email Shani if we can figure it out!  I was busy with sick kids yesterday and had little time to do much but I did manage to squeeze in some laptop time and made three CU paisley overlays from the brushes and shapes that I made.  They are all .pngs on transparent backgrounds;  I just put them on a white background for preview purposes.

first of all thank you.

next in regards to the problem with saving brushes in psp. I have psp 10 and found that the brushes that are done for photo shop will not save in psp. I believe that the extention on them ie .abr. its the extention on the end of them that keeps them for working. but you can make any png file into a brush just by using the export feature.

open a png and resize it to 500x500 pixels or less. click export as, click custon brush, fill in the info, and click save. click on your brush and check through the files to see if it saved. hopefully that will help.

hi its me again. i tried the above in psp 9 and found out something else. psp 9 checks the size of the canvas or work area for size and not the actual png. so if she is using 9 there is one more step before she exports the png as a brush. heres the instructions again.

open the png she wants and resize it. i usually do 400 for width and psp will automatically calculate height.

go to image click canvas size and resize to 500x500 pixels.

click export, click custom brush, fill in a name, if it yours i usually use sc as part of the name, click save. then click on your brush and find the image and use. hopefully i dont find any more quirks in 9.

I use PSP and the brushes loaded and work fine in all the versions I have, including PSPX2. My method of loading was as follows:-
Resize the .png files to a maximum of 500x500 pixels
Then File - Export - Custom Brush
Enter name for file on box that comes up
Click OK
Brush should then be available when paintbrush tool is clicked on. If paintbrush is already selected when the new brushes are loaded and new brushes don't show in list, then click on another tool and then click back onto the paintbrush. If brushes still don't show then exit PSP and relaunch the program. The new brushes should then show up in the list.

ok I launched PSP 9 to check it out
& I got it to work
as scangel explained, you have to resize the png to no larger than 500x500 pixels & then use File>Export>custom brush> fill in brush name, author>save
if you have mistakenly deleted the "My PSP" folder from My Documents (as I did once years ago) simply create a new folder with that name, & place a folder called "Brushes" within that folder

the software recommended by Granny in the shout box works great - I was able to extract png files from abr files easily, at which point I can resize & export in PSP; versions 10 & 11 allow brushes a max 999x999 pixels

anyway, thank you Deb, your work is truly appreciated

http://www.squidoo.com/free_photoshop_brushes - on this page PSP users can learn how to use .abr's with PSP - it's quite a bit down on the page - but it's easy!
