To “GUEST”

Today there was a post on my shoutbox from “guest” that reads like this:

Guest Why are you advertising at CU Freebie Forum if you are asking for $20.00 License fee ! NOT RIGHT AT ALL :(

Details

2010-06-21 8:22 PM

Ummm, ok. First of all, I don’t “advertise” anywhere.  That would mean I pay a fee right? Nope, I haven’t done that.  Second, I haven’t posted any of my freebies there since I changed the license terms and cannot remember the last thing I would have posted there but I imagine it was well over a year ago.  Guest, did you read the license terms?  It states that all items offered AFTER 10/12/09 require a license purchase.  I realize that any member of that forum can post a found freebie there and I cannot be responsible for those who may have posted my products in error after 10/12/09.  Actually, I believe the site has changed hands because I am not even able to log onto my account there, and it does not look anything like it did when I was active there.

Of course the GUEST probably won’t even read this post because she came here to get something for nothing and then flew off the handle when she saw there was a license fee and didn’t bother to read it.  Are you “entitled” to free stuff? Well, GUEST, you are welcome to download every single thing on my blog absolutely free.  I just ask a modest fee if you want to MAKE MONEY from it. Gee, I’m sorry if that seems unfair to you, but I have spent thousands on equipment, filters, programs, to create FREE items, only to have others make money from them.   I will take the blinkie down for the CU Freebies site if that offends you.  I placed it up there so others can find CU Freebies. The blinkies I choose to place on my site are links for my readers to find other resources available to them and aren’t “advertising”.

And lastly – why the anonymity? Why not a link to your blog if you are a designer? An email? How can I respond to you “GUEST”? I hate that I have wasted 1/2 an hour of my precious time responding to you when you don’t even give me the courtesy of an email with your “concerns”.

Anyway – there’s much more that I could say but I’m going to keep this a family friendly site so I’ll refrain.

Probably the same person that went after another blogger anomalously because they didn't like what she had. I for one appreciate anything and everything u do for us. And people like that aren't worth the time and effort it takes to be upset.

HI Deb, I know you know there are a lot of wack-a-do's out there.. Don't let them get you down.. and don't let them make you change something on your site you want to do.. Thanks for all the hard work and awesome freebies. You seriously rock!

Deb, although I'm sure it's upsetting, don't pay any attention to such an ungrateful person. You are MORE than generous with your time and talent, and I for one appreciate it SO much. I offer freebies on my blog, too, and am constantly amazed by the lack of a simple thank you. Freebies are such a blessing and I am constantly amazed by the generosity of designers of digital elements. Unfortunately, that same generosity sometimes breeds an attitude of entitlement rather than thankfulness.

That was nice of you to respond and explain things for her... but you didn't have to. Don't let peeps upset you. We regulars all know what the deal is.... Thanks for everything you do! XOXO

You are very generous with your freebies, and your CU terms are marvelous, too. Just ignore "Guest". You do a wonderful job, and I really appreciate your work.

Well said. For all that you have created and left active on your site, GUEST should have been grateful or just moved on. Thanks for what you do.

Wanted to come out of my mostly-lurkdom to say forget Guest. What a putz.

I've downloaded alot of what you offer and think your stuff is just amazing! Thank you for all you do and offer to the community.

don't let Guest get to you - I love your blog & appreciate all the time & effort you go to creating & extracting your freebies. next item on my shopping list is your cu licence so I can continue to use your wonderful items in my kits not that I have much time to design at the moment with bub #4 due anyday - anyway a big thanks from me hun xx Sam

I have gotten your CU license and I think that the price for it is so reasonable. We get so many wonderful items from you. I think you are one of the best CU designers out there. I don't make anything to sell with your CU items. Getting the CU license was one way for me to say thank you for all of the things I have downloaded. I just love everything you have to offer. Please don't let this ungrateful person get you down. There are so many of us that really care about you and your work. Your have such a wonderful talent. I for one do appreciate very much the time, money and generosity of your work. This is one of my favorite blogs. Thank you so much for sharing. You are appreciated.

I am shocked at the arrogance of Guest. Why is it that a small handful of people refuse to acknowledge the hard work you put into your freebies. Why take the blinkie down to satisfy her? It leads people to your site and there they have a choice, either use the resources for personal use or buy a commercial licence. Frankly bearing in mind the cost of the licence, it is hardly a payment, more it is a contribution towards all the plug ins, filters and software you continually purchase and update. Where else can you purchase such a licence? The cost of this licence would not buy more than 3 commercial use items from other sources. I for one love your work and wish you had not bothered to respond to this anonomous guest.

Please don't take any attention to these responses, your not the first one who are attacked by nonsens.
I love to come here, glad that you design for us and very happy to do so:-).
Cheer up and don't let you spoil the fun by others who do not deserve you pretty stuff.

You're so right, I agree on everything you wrote there.

Where does this 'guest' come from not reading everything proper, but still complain? Well the only one she is making a fool of is herself.

And thanks for the giggle at the last lines... Me thinks... I can fill in the blanks. LOL.

I am not the "Guest" you refer to in this post. I do want to let you know what your hard work means to me.
A big THANK YOU! and a hug!

Work has been very slow while bills have taken on light speed growth. For 3yrs now, I've had 1 or 2 boys in college. My 3rd begins this year. Earlier this month I broke down when I opened the mail for one of my children's college tuition and it read installments begin this month (it is usually August). The kids help but insurance and gas alone takes much of their money. I am not complaining! I feel lucky that I am able to hold on. I have had a yard sale, picked strawberries, picked up cans on the side of the road. A long list of odd and weird jobs have added $5-$50 dollars to the kitty at a time.
Tonight after turning a loaf and a half of bread into sandwiches and making 5 huge nutritious lunches for about $12 I was tired but wanted to treat myself.

I came to a place that I loved a long time ago... long before there was such a term as "cu freebies". A very generous lady gave out freebies that were so awesome. I was amazed at the quality and generosity. You were always with and even setting the trends. There were things I wanted to try but was reluctant to pay the bigger price tag when I was unsure if I could do it. You not only gave your hard work and talent but also fantastic instructions so I was able to feel like I had done a good job on my layout. Back then I did spend money on different designers work and although their work wasn't bad yours was often far superior.
I remember opening a kit I purchased and how I felt when I realized that it was mostly your stuff. (Then, I thought designers designed and it was a big no no to take what another designer had created.) I felt bad that I had given money to a designer that had only copied your creations. I spent an hour looking at shops to see if others were doing this. There were a LOT of kits being sold that contained at least one or 2 of your creations and you didn't get a penny or even credit. I then went to your blog and you were there working far and beyond to make sure everyone could get links that had gone wonky. I can't even imagine how you must have felt to see many making money from your hard work. When you posted the cu license I felt it seemed only right and wasn't created early enough.

Today, it ticked me off to see that someone would question your cu license then I realized that I am guilty of not saying THANK YOU Scrappin Cop! enough.

I scrap for family and friends. I am very proud of layouts that you have helped me create. Your talent, generosity and hard work have meant a lot to me and given me great pleasure. You are a truly amazing person!

Guest is the one with the problem. Do not let someones ungrateful attitude get to you. I rarely buy anything and am always grateful to those that share. But i did not hesitate spending a mere 20 bucks for all that you do. I may or may not ever use them commercially but you deserve more than 20 for all you do. And hang in there and don't listen to small minds that feel entitled to others work.

Lindalou said...

Well said, I have a blog and it's sooo annoying when they haven't the decency to put their name to the comments, very brave. Pay no attention your stuff is fantastic and your hard work shows, people should be grateful not grumpy.
Keep up the wonderful work x

It is so easy to tell someone NOT to get upset, easier said than done. You have every right to be as upset as you want to be, and I can understand it so well. My only hope is that you still remember that the vast majority really appreciates your work, talent and generosity in sharing it, even if we don't always even manage a thank you (I personally don't even know how to comment via 4shared nowadays... tried to figure it out though), which is shameful! Thank you for offering all your great freebies, I'm hoping for time to get active again...

Please don't let that "one bad apple" spoil even a moment of your time. Your talent and AWESOME generosity are sincerely appreciated by so many of us out here. I for one GLADLY paid a meager fee for the wonderful treasures you share with us. I don't even make kits for money, but I do participate in blog challenges etc. - so I thought the fee was a VERY small price to pay for the gifts you bestow so generously. "Guest" is an ungracious lug, and doesn't deserve even an answer to such a ridiculous post. Soldier on...we LOVE you!!!

Apparently she is too ashamed to let us all know her name. A big TU again. Not able to come often, but I love it when I do. Your stuff is awesome!!

I'm sorry people are rude to those of you who are generous with the rest of us. You people put in a lot of time and effort to supply these freebies to us. I for one, am very grateful for your freebies. Don't let 'guest' get to you girl, they're lame... ;-) I'm thrilled to have had the chance to pay you back for all you do for us! I think the 20 bucks is WELL WORTH the money! There will always be selfish people out there who think they're entitled to special deals and a world of free stuff, they don't seem to see anything beyond their own nose! The fact that you are working so hard making all this stuff FOR US is awesome, the least we could do is donate a little to repay you for that! (hugs) Just remember, there are tons of us out here that LOVE you, let that drown out the one rude voice.

Heck, it seems to me that when you take into consideration the sheer quantity of design items that you have available and divide into $20.00 the price per item is darn near free anyway. "Guest" is an idjit and should take a hike. I for one thought when you announced the new CU terms that it was about time you recouped a tiny bit of money for all that you do. Thanks, Deb!

Well, you should take from the nonanonymous 51 readers who are more than happy to pay your license fee which is very nominal anyway. It's not like it's $20 for each item. There will always be HATERS! :) Your site is great! :) bottom line. Don't change for the few...we love you as you are! :)

I bought the $20 license...I've little chance of becoming a designer myself, but I thought it was a small price to pay for the wonderful items you give us all. I agree with you. My blog is http://digitalphotobookpages.blogspot.com/
It is amazing how many people get bent out of shape if you charge or have a donation box. I tried those plus ads. 6000 hits on my blog and and no responses from ads or anything else. We are not trying to make a living having a blog! Giving away our time is voluntary, but if they are going to make money, then at lease leave a buck donation or click an ad. I for one choose my ads carefully. I don't know how a lot of these digiscrap places can charge 10 and 15 dollars for a kit that are no different from what you or I are giving away, but they stay in business.( And there are a lot of them.) In the end, we all create the same stuff.

Anonymous said...

Why do some people always want something for free but they want to make money out of those freebies? I agree with what Anonymous said, you, Gunhild Storeide and Scrapdoctor, were the one who set the trend in giving away a lot of CU freebies. With that big help from your CU freebies, I was able to make wonderful kits using your stuffs (with credits to you and other designers even if I have paid for them).

I wasn't able to visit your blog for awhile but when I did a few months back and I have read your new TOU that you are charging $20 if a designer will use it for commercial use, I knew that it's just fair and right. It didn't take me a minute to hit the paypal button because I know that is just the right thing to do. Besides with all the wonderful stuffs that you have given away for commercial use, i think $20 is just a modest amount considering that other designers would charge $5 to $14 for one grab bag that will only disappoint you once you have opened them. So, go on with what you do. There are hundreds or thousands of us who appreciate what you are doing.

WOW... I love your site, and have purchased the license, I haven't sold a thing yet, still working on that. What gets me is what the one lady said, about designers using your stuff and selling them and the stuff looks exactly the same, now, I always thought that you were supose to alter the stuff so it changes it to not be exactly like yours other wise why call yourself a designer. I've seen tons of kits recently with your shadow boxes in them and just shake my head because they haven't been altered in away that pays respect to the original work (yours) and makes the kit a credit to the designer that is selling them as they are. I've seen GrannyArt the same way.. Why make a whole kit out of someone elses work and not add some kind of distinction to make it unique and your own..

Deb, very well said! It's just too bad that there are still ungrateful people out there that think that freeloading off of everyone for them to get ahead is okay. If they only knew that it just doesn't work that way! Your licensing fee is more than fair and I appreciate everything that you have done!

This reminds me of the anonymous comment I got over a year ago right before my dog died that made me give up designing for awhile. Her idea is that just the fact that she downloads the freebie implies that she likes my stuff and she doesn't feel that she has to say thank you.

I love your work and I have used it for personal use stuff until I can get things going for a proper online store. Then I'm coming straight here for your CU license!

And I just can't wait to use those nails. Ideas are coming into my head faster than I can get PSP open. You inspire so many great ideas. Thank you again!

I just want to say a big THANK YOU for all your wonderful, wonderful, wonderful freebies. I scrap for my own pleasure, making scrapbooks for my family. I am also CT for two ladies, but I only use their products for those LOs. If I ever decide to go "pro" and become a designer I will definitely positively absolutely buy your license - you made them, you worked, you spent the time and money to create them. And I do truly appreciate that!. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I have to say I don't post comments very often. It's people like her that ruin it for the rest of us. I am so grateful you create wonderful things for me to us personally. It's only fair if someone makes money off of you that you should get paid as well. People always want something for nothing. I appreciate you and our wonderful creations!

Was GUEST serious? Your free designs and effort are so worth the $20 license fee. Where else can you get all these for only $20 if CU. Hmmm Some people........

Yeah! What Deb said!! :)

Ignore the trolls - they aren't worth your time or energy! LOVE your stuff, always! Even if one isn't using your pieces for their own kits, all of the amazing and unique items here are worth the $20 several times over!!

Scrap on, Deb... Scrap on!

Do not let the ungrateful people get to you. You are very talented and GENEROUS! I appreciate what you are doing and $20 is a very small fee if people are using your items to make money themselves. Afterall if I have a bakesale and sell brownies I don't expect Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker to give me the mix for free! LOL
Thank you for what you do!

Hi Deb, I have been off line for about a year and a half, my designing has come to a complete standstill and I am just now getting back into it. As many have said before me, your generousity and creativity have allowed me to explore and create in this field. I have always credited you in my kits...you deserve the credit! As soon as I have $20.00 in Paypal, I will be paying this miniscule fee. Well worth it and beyond! Thank you so much for all you do for this community of scrappers!

I wanted you to know that I am new to your site, I just discovered it yesterday, because i am a new designer and scrapper. I have already downloaded a lot of your designs just to have them for when I can afford to get your license. It is my understanding that this $20 license gives you the right to use your creations to make money from them and it doesn't expire so it's like a lifetime license, am I correct? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's a awesome deal. I saw one designer charging
$40 for that and another about $150. That to me just shuts out the scrappers that's just getting started, especially someone like me that doesn't really have anything to get started. I was just lucky from being a model and worked with a lot of photographers who didn't know anything about paint shop or photoshop so I bought my own software to touch up my images for my portfolio or I wouldn't have a great program to work with. I am great-full for what you are doing for us!! Keep on designing and Ill keep say thank you and once I get your license I will also credit you for your creations, like I have already done on my blog. I am also learning how to create my own designs too so I won't be just using others work. Again be blessed and don't let the nay sayers get you down!!!!!
