I was perusing Ebay and found these cute vintage keys at a good price. I bought the set mostly because I wanted the little heart one! I scanned and extracted them, and then made a .csh set also. The .zip includes the keys as scanned (rust and all) and black .pngs and a Photoshop/PSE custom shape set.

Gum Box/Notecard Box Printable Template

Lately I’ve been busy playing with my new Cricut and having fun with Make the Cut software. The other day I was admiring the packaging on my new favorite gum, Extra Dessert Delights Mint Chcolate Chip. I thought, why not make a box like that to hold a little notepad. I originally planned to make one for sticky-notes but I’m too cheap. I bought 200 index cards at the dollar store and if you cut them in half they fit perfectly in my little box. I had fun adding touches to my boxes and I think they will make cute party favors for the next birthday party. I also thought you could decorate it with a playing cards theme and use the index cards for score cards. Or, if you don’t want to put notecards in the box I’m sure there are several other uses for it. Included in the .zip is a .pdf, a .svg, and a .mtc (Make-the-Cut) file. If you don’t have an electronic cutter you will want to open and print the .pdf, then cut it with scissors and assemble. I would love to see what you do with them!

CU OK Folded Tree Action for Photoshop and Layered Template

After playing around with real paper I thought it would be cool to have an action to make the little folded trees out of my digital ones. This little action will create a folded tree from two background papers. Unfortunately it will only work in Photoshop. I tried to get it to work in PSE but just got too frustrated. It’s been tested in CS3 and CS5, the only two versions of Photoshop I own.

For those who do not have Photoshop, I made a template of the tree so you can still make trees of your own. However, you will probably want to rotate your papers so to make the tree look more realistic, like it was really “folded” from one piece of double-sided paper. But I also tested it just slapping some patterned styles on the different layers and they turned out cute too! I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday and best wishes to you for a Happy New Year!

Dictionary Pendant Tutorial and Free Printable

If you follow me on Twitter you know that I am addicted to Pinterest! Oh my gosh I could spend hours just gazing at the amazing ideas and projects posted there. You can find about a million “pins” of refrigerator magnets made from the little flat floral “marbles” and I have already made a ton of them. Also all the rage on Pinterest and Etsy is dictionary art. I set out to make some pendants combining these ideas and although it is not an original idea I thought they turned out pretty cute!

I thought my readers might like to make some as gifts so I thought I would do a quick tutorial to show you how I did them and offer the file I created to make them.

Here are the supplies you will need for this project:

1) The file I provide below printed out on white cardstock

2) Mod Podge (Love this stuff!)

3) 3/4 inch circle paper punch (or you can use scissors but it’s much easier with the circle punch) to cut out the cardstock.

4) Small sponge applicator or paint brush for the Mod Podge

5) Pendant Bails (I bought mine from Ebay from THIS supplier). You can alternately use magnets if you did not want to make pendants.

6) Clear glass flat floral marbles. The only ones I have found locally that are CLEAR and don’t have a shimmer “luster” on them are at Hobby Lobby. I know you can also purchase these online at craft supply stores, Ebay, etc. It’s important that they are clear, I tried the shimmery ones and you can’t really read the words.

7) Hot glue gun or a good strong glue like E6000. (I used my glue gun.)

Here’s how I created the printable file, in case you would like to make your own definitions:

I bought a dictionary and thesaurus at the Dollar Tree. I found the words I wanted to use for my pendants and carefully tore the pages from the books so that I could scan them flat (the books were only a buck each so I didn’t feel bad tearing them). I scanned them and brought them into Photoshop where I cut out the sections I wanted with a circular marquis. I added a brownish overlay layer style to make the paper look aged and “circled” the word in red.

I then duplicated the discs a bunch of times on a blank 8.5 x 11 document and made similar discs from the other words. When I was finished I printed the file on cardstock on my inkjet printer.

Then I used my paper punch to punch out the discs. You probably already know this but I’m a bit slllllooooooowww and it took me several tries before I figured out if I hold the punch upside down and open the little door thingy, it is easy to center your punch so you get a perfect cut.

Once you have your circles cut our or punched take your little sponge and dab a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the flat side of the glass marbles.

Then just stick your cut-outs onto the back of the marble and allow the Mod Podge to dry. It will dry clear so don’t worry if your marbles look cloudy at first.

When the Mod Podge is dry, use your glue gun or jewelry glue to glue the bails on the back of the paper. Easy Peasy!

I really like how they turned out. I hope you like them and try them yourself!

I also included the template to create your own tickets and the .csh file for Photoshop/PSE so that you can create your own tickets any size you want! CU OK Date Washers

I was recently inspired by these adorable pendants on Pinterest using washers and letter stamps. I photographed two different size washers and used this great font to “stamp” months and years on them. I also included the date strip but you could just type the date and circle it with the washers using your favorite font on your layout.

CU OK Gold and Silver Swirl Templates

I’m resurrecting another old file that I shared early last year HERE. I played around with one of my favorite Filter Forge filters: Metals Filter by Lucato, and made a gold and silver version of each swirl doodle. I then made a fill layer template so that you can just plop it under the swirl and add your favorite layer style, pattern, or background paper, etc. to the template. I hate doing previews and couldn’t figure out how to make a preview that would show exactly what the concept is or just how pretty they really are at 100%. CU OK Cardboard Styles II and Seamless Tiles

Forever ago I made a set of cardboard layer styles and they were pretty popular. Today’s set of styles is corrugated cardboard created by scanning a piece of cardboard that has the paper torn completely off one side. Make any sense? Also included are the seamless tiles and two different scales of grey tiles so you can recolor however you like.

I still need to photograph the stuff that I was going to work on next after my last post but my camera broke! Oh no! So I have to ship it back to Canon and hope they can fix it.

Well it has been a very long time hasn’t it? And I’m very sorry to be neglecting the blog and my duties but it’s been a pretty crazy summer. Things are starting to slow down a little, after we get through football season I should have much more time to get back to designing.

I’m back tonight with a set of retro camera doodles that I actually started quite some time ago but never finished. There’s also a couple of talk bubbles in the set of custom shapes (Photoshop/PSE) and individually saved .png files.

Hopefully it won’t be so long before my next post! I do have some stuff done that I need to photograph and extract so at least I have an idea of what to do, now just to find the time to do it!!

Last weekend we went to EAA Airventure in OshKosh, WI because hubby is a pilot (in addition to a police officer) and he goes up every year . I enjoy watching the air shows but to be honest, walking around looking at airplanes that are on the ground is not my idea of fun. So while he and my daughter walked around the grounds I took off to the antique mall. I found a booth with a bunch of old pins for $1 each so I bought these and just finished extracting them.

CU OK Antique Iron-on Transfers

So I was at an antique store a couple of weeks ago and came across a package of antique iron-on transfers that they used to use for dish towels, pillow cases, etc. They were cheap enough and I thought I could probably do something with them. I took them out last night and started messing with them. The problem is, they are so old that they fall apart when you barely touch them. I had a time unfolding them and scanning them. I then had to import them into Photoshop and clean them up and extract the faded drawings from the brown paper backgrounds. Some filter work, smoothing, etc. and I finally have a finished .png of the drawing. I have a bunch more and will get them out in the next few posts. The others include some farm animals, kittens, cowboys etc. See the preview and example below:

Ok, I hate the new Skydrive format. I can’t link to a single .zip file anymore and the entire shared folder appears when you click on the link. Hopefully you see the download option on the right pane when you click on the link. I will be searching for yet another file sharing service. UGH! Anyone use Google Docs to share files? I could use Pogoplug again but that uses my internet bandwidth and won’t work of the hard drive crashes. Anyway, here’s an example of how I used one of the .png files:

Oh, and they are resized for the preview but the actual .pngs are very large. The square one in the bottom left corner takes up a whole 12 x 12 page (for overlays, etc.)

CU OK Curio Cabinet Templates

Today’s freebie is a set of templates I made that were inspired by a cute curio cabinet I saw in a magazine. There is a greyscale cabinet (no styles, bevels, etc. applied) and a white wood cabinet that you can still customize by adding your own touches to the drawer inserts (see preview). Here’s an example of how I used it:

The shadow is on its own layer so you can adjust the opacity to suit your tastes. Use the greyscale template to add your own favorite wood styles if you rather not have the white wood. Each template comes in a layered .psd and individual png files. It’s a big download (about 50mb) so be patient! Here’s the preview:

Meh, I know I’ve been neglecting the blog lately. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you all how crazy it gets around the holidays. I think I’m finally finished with my Christmas shopping but still need to get groceries, etc. for the Christmas meals. I played around around with Photoshop for a little bit today and made this layered template that was inspired by some wrapping paper I saw the other day. You just recolor each layer or add a layer style to each layer to make a unique background paper. Let me tell you, the wrapping paper was much cooler than my template. I’m not thrilled with it and don’t expect many downloads but it is something to show you that I’m still alive.

CU OK Silvery Glittery Winter Elements

Today’s freebie is a set of dollar store finds that I photographed and extracted. They are shiny and glittery! And guess what, when I unpackaged them to photograph, so much glitter came off on my kitchen table and counter that it looks like a glitter wonderland in my kitchen! LOL. Since they are silver, they are easily recolored (as in the poinsettia example in the preview). Oh, and they are BIG, because I forgot to resize them before I zipped them up and uploaded them. The size on the preview is about 1/2 as big as they really would be on a 3600 x 3600 canvas.

CU OK Doodle Edge Shapes .csh and pngs

Today’s freebie is a set of doodle edges that you can use as they are or you can use them to create template shapes for your layouts. I captured a few screen shots to show you what I mean. All of the shapes are at least 3600 pix wide so you just plop one on your layout:

Then using your magic wand select the area under or over the doodle, with your contiguous box checked. Create a layer under the doodle layer and expand your selection by a few pixels.

Then fill the selection on your blank layer with a color:

While you still have your marching ants, invert your selection and create another layer above the layer you just filled in and fill it with a different color:

Deselect and you can remove or hide the doodle area if you want, or keep it depending on your taste:

You can clip a background paper to each of the shape layers or just apply a layer style, it’s really up to you!

Special Olympics is an organization that is especially dear to those of us in Law Enforcement. Every year we raise money for Special Olympics by participating in a Torch Run. Well, not really a design contest. Over at Androidheadlines.com they had a contest to submit your scariest Android home screen so I created one in Photoshop and submitted it. Turns out, my “Headless Andy” made it to the final round. Wow, I’m flabbergasted. Here’s what he looks like:

When I was at the craft store the other day I found these fun Yo-Yo Flower makers. They really make easy work of creating fun flowers for craft projects, etc. I picked up some fabric squares too and made a few yo-yo flowers. I then added a button to the center of each one, photographed, and extracted them. I think I might make hair clips or headbands out of them for my daughter now instead of throwing them away!

CU OK Steampunk Vintage Watch Guts

I realize it’s been awhile since my last freebie post, sorry! It’s been a little crazy with the kids going back to school and running them around to football and cheerleading practice. I’ve had to work a little at a time on these and finally finished extracting them. There are a bunch of vintage watch “guts” and two pocket watch frames (one gold and one silver). I added “glass” to the frames for kicks. I also included a silver frame in the .zip that I did not add glass to that you can recolor as needed.

I’m trying a new download method and would appreciate your comments if you try it. I recently purchased a Seagate Dockstar which I connected to my router. I plugged an external HD into the dockstar and am able to share files from the EHD. I have no idea how it works but it is super easy! I just drag a file into the EHD that shows up as a network drive and then go onto the PogoPlug site to grab the link to share. I’m just concerned it may not work if my internet service or router goes down (which happens occasionally) so I will always provide an alternate download link.

I had a request several months ago from Lisa to create some Viewmaster elements. I did make this template and have been looking for a Viewmaster toy to photograph and extract but the only ones I could find in the stores around here are the modern day Viewmasters and they don’t really look anything like the ones I remember. There are several images on the internet available if you would like to use one for your layouts but unfortunately I don’t think I’ll have a viewer up any time soon.

We just got back from the Lake of the Ozarks yesterday and had a great week where we were all “unplugged”! But I am back finally with a new freebie. Tonight’s freebie is a set of nails that I hammered into a piece of wood and purposely bent them. I then photographed and extracted them. I thought they would be useful as “hangers” or to “attach” stuff to your layouts. They are also easily recolored.

Ummm, ok. First of all, I don’t “advertise” anywhere. That would mean I pay a fee right? Nope, I haven’t done that. Second, I haven’t posted any of my freebies there since I changed the license terms and cannot remember the last thing I would have posted there but I imagine it was well over a year ago. Guest, did you read the license terms? It states that all items offered AFTER 10/12/09 require a license purchase. I realize that any member of that forum can post a found freebie there and I cannot be responsible for those who may have posted my products in error after 10/12/09. Actually, I believe the site has changed hands because I am not even able to log onto my account there, and it does not look anything like it did when I was active there.

Of course the GUEST probably won’t even read this post because she came here to get something for nothing and then flew off the handle when she saw there was a license fee and didn’t bother to read it. Are you “entitled” to free stuff? Well, GUEST, you are welcome to download every single thing on my blog absolutely free. I just ask a modest fee if you want to MAKE MONEY from it. Gee, I’m sorry if that seems unfair to you, but I have spent thousands on equipment, filters, programs, to create FREE items, only to have others make money from them. I will take the blinkie down for the CU Freebies site if that offends you. I placed it up there so others can find CU Freebies. The blinkies I choose to place on my site are links for my readers to find other resources available to them and aren’t “advertising”.

Americana Quick Pages

For today’s freebie I have a set of full size quick pages that I made using my Americana Kit. They are 3600 x 3600 .png files and are PU/SFO/SFH only please! If they are well received, I will probably make some more or maybe a brag book set.

My frustration with secondary file storage options is raging now. Sky drive will only allow me to download if I’m signed in and I’ve received info that others have been unable to download also. I don’t think you should have to have an account to download a shared file, am I right? Of course, there is no one I can email at Microsoft to clear this up. UGHHH! Online Storage Solution isn’t working, and FileSavr randomly has you downloading a .jpeg file instead of the .zip file. HUH?? 4shared has been the only consistent option throughout all this and although I say that, I am annoyed at the 20 second wait to download a file if you aren’t a “premium” member. Anyone, anyone have a better solution that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?

Although I’ve been away for several days, I have been busy!! It seems like every night this summer there are baseball games, softball games, Tball games to attend and I’m feeling a little frazzled! I finally had some time to sit down and complete another freebie though. Tonight’s freebie is another set of patterned Photoshop brushes. Again, you just “paint” on your canvas with the brush and it will paint the pattern on your document. For this set there are 7 patterns and I created a “smooth” brush set and a “grungy” brush set for each pattern. CU OK White Bead Alpha

I photographed and extracted these beads while I was working on my Americana kit because I wanted to do some word art with them and string them on some cool strings. But I got lazy extracting the strings and decided to give up on the word art. Sooo, here’s the alpha. Nothing new and you probably already have a set but in case you don’t – grab these. There’s A-Z and a heart bead in individual pngs and a .psd with each letter on it’s own layer. I think it’s easier to work with them when they are all on their own layer in one document and you don’t have to open each letter up that you want to work with. But that’s just a matter of my personal preference.

It’s my Blog Birthday and I have a new Kit!

I haven’t posted anything in awhile but I have been busy working on this kit for the past week. With Memorial Day and the 4th of July coming up I wanted to make a kit with a freedom theme. I hardly ever do kits because I hate making background papers. I don’t know why, but it takes me the longest time to create the background papers. Weird, I know. Anyway, there are 19 papers and a variety of elements included in this kit and I have ideas for several add-ons that I will probably be posting throughout the next several days but I wanted to get this posted today. Today has a special significance because it is my blog birthday! Only two short years ago I started the Scrappin Cop and things sure have changed around here but I hope to be celebrating many more blog birthdays in Digiland! Today’s freebie is another item I had in my “pending” folder. Included in the .zip are a bunch of circle stamps in .png and Photoshop .abr format. You can “stamp” them as is on your layout or use one of the included grunge brushes as an eraser to grunge them up, like this:

Add a custom shape or date in the middle and play around with different layer styles like this:

Also included in the .zip is the .psd I used as a template to make all the different brushes, with the text paths included. You can try to see if it works in your program. I saved it in CS5 (LOVE IT!) with maximum compatibility. However, if you do not have these fonts installed on your computer Photoshop/PSE will likely substitute the font. I included the .psd in case you would like to substitute a different saying for your layouts or kits, and hope it works for you! (but no promises, lol). You will need to double-click on each text layer and then type in your own saying. If you all have suggestions for more sayings and don’t want to mess with trying to make your own with the .psd, leave a comment here or email me and I will probably make more when I have enough for another set. Each stamp is about 4”.

CU OK Craft Gems

I found these things in my “Pending” file which is where I put all the stuff I’m going to do “later”. I have several things in there that I have started and then for whatever reason I never finished. I’m not real sure how useful these will be but I’m trying to clear out the pending folder so I wrapped these up tonight. A while back I photograhed a sheet of craft gems and extracted them. There are three different layers in the .psd. The top “gem” layer, and a silver “setting” layer and a gold “setting” layer. They aren’t divided individually so you will need to choose which setting you want (if any) and merge with the gem layer (after recoloring, if you like). Then you will need to select a gem (with rectangular marquis, lasso tool, etc.) and copy it to your layout. I could have just offered a few gems but I thought you might want some variety as no two gems are exactly alike and you can create a more realistic element – yes? Anyway, here’s a quick example of a frame I made:

CU OK Bling Belt Slides

I’m back with another freebie that might not be of any use for digiscrappers but perhaps you can find something to do with these belt slides I picked up at the craft store recently. You can wrap a ribbon around them, recolor, maybe even use them as frames?

CU OK Tag in a Bag Layered Template

I was at the craft store today and they had these really cute scrapbook embellishments they called “tag in a bag”. They were little paper bags with a slip of paper in them that you use on your paper scrapbook pages. I am not sure if they have very practical use in digiscrapping because you can’t pull the tag out to read it but I thought they were cute and maybe someone could find a use for them. I made this template by scanning a paper bag and then using that image to clip to the layered template shapes. Included in the .zip is the brown bag template (front and back .pngs) and a plain paper “tag” and a lined “tag” and the greyscale template in .pngs and .psd so you can pick your favorite paper or layer style to create your own element.

CU OK Cracked Paint Layer Styles and seamless Image Tile

For today’s freebie I made a set of cracked paint styles using a great Filter Forge filter “Cracked Paint” by handlebar. I also included the grey seamless tile I used for the styles if you cannot use the styles. Just recolor as you need in your program! Today’s freebie is a set of ribbons that I folded and stapled, then photographed. I chose multi-colored ribbons so that hopefully you can find one to match your kits or layouts. I also bought some buttons that will hopefully match these and will post them soon!
