Please Vote for My Dew Can!

Ok, I don’t ask my readers for much in return for the freebies I have offered in the past couple of years. And I’m personally annoyed by people who beg for votes in design contests. But I entered this little contest for Mountain Dew to design a can for one of their new flavors in the Dewmocracy campaign. Below is my submission:

DewCan

I realize it’s not the most amazing design in the gallery and I don’t expect to win but it would be cool if ya’all could hop over and vote for it if you like it! The top ten designs win a MacBook Pro! That would be too incredible since I am in need of a new laptop! You will need to sign in or sign up for Facebook to vote and you can vote once a day.

So anyway, I would appreciate your vote if you get a chance! Here’s the link: DewmocracyGallery You may need to scroll through toward the end of the gallery. As of today I was on page 12.

Edit: 10/06/09 Voting is now closed. Thanks so much to everyone who voted!

Today’s freebie is a set of layer styles for Photoshop/PSE that will add a grungy pattern to your shape or element with one click! Choose your color and add the grunge by clicking on one of the styles. (See the example in the preview).  Also included are the three tiles I used to create the styles which are seamless 1800 x 1800 jpegs.

CU Textured Photoshop Brushes

Everyone seemed to enjoy yesterday’s patterned grunge brushes so I made another set of textured brushes today that are not grungy. There are 6 brushes in this set and they are all 2500 x 2500 round with zero hardness.  This means they are HUGE but they will blend very seamlessly if you want to paint a large area or an entire 3600 x 3600 paper.  And check out my next post for the rest of the overlays I made yesterday if you can’t use the brush set.

CU Patterned Grunge Overlays using my latest Brush set!

Geez, I almost forgot to post these! I have more overlays that I will post on Monday but I didn’t have time to finish the previews.  These overlays are made using my patterned grunge brushes I released earlier today. They are transparent pngs but I placed them over a blue background for preview purposes. Dont forget to play with the blend modes to obtain your unique background paper!

CU Patterned Grunge PS/PSE Brush Set

The other day I was playing with my Grunge Brushes and found an option called “texture” that I haven’t used before in the brush options palette. You can use any pattern loaded in your pattern palette and your chosen brush will “paint” that pattern using that brush. Very cool! So came up with a patterned grunge brush set that I’ve had a lot of fun playing with! Here’s the preview:

SC_PatternedGrunge As you can see there are 10 different patterns that will look grungy when you paint with the brush. Let me show you what I mean with a few screen shots. (You will need to click on the pics for the full screen shots, sorry.)

Capture2

As you can see, from the stroke preview you cannot really tell what the brush will look like. If you hover over the brush it will show you the descriptive name so you know what each brush will look like.

Capture3

Here is the grunge dot brush using two different colors. Just “paint” over the canvas and the brush paints the pattern. You can also scale the pattern larger or smaller in the brush options palette (PS only, not an option in PSE):

Capture5

Here’s the same brush with the pattern (texture) scaled down to 50%

Capture6

Here’s another brush in the set - “Grunge Argyle”:

Capture7

This literally takes seconds. Just choose your brush, your foreground color, and paint! You can also deselect the texture box to use the brush as a regular dynamic grunge brush:

Capture8

Then you can lower the opacity and use the brush to add more grunge detail to your paper:

Capture9

Easy peasy? You can mix the patterns, play with opacities and blend modes, and create unique grunge background papers! I hope you enjoy this very versatile set! I’ve also made some transparent overlays using these brushes for the non-PS/PSE readers that I will post later tonight.

CU Spoooky Dingbat Font

You may recognize some of these characters from layered templates I made last year. (still available - search label Halloween). This is a set of doodled dingbats with a Halloween theme. Click on the preview for larger view of the dings. 26 characters A-Z. Enjoy!

Ohhh, and Mediafire does not seem to be working half the time. I will be looking into yet another site for the alternate downloads.

Edit: 9/12/09 - I decided to open another 4shared with a different email because I am NOT happy with Mediafire. None of the links were working after two days of working just fine! So the alternate download link for all the freebies will again be 4shared.

CU Fall Glitter .asl for Photoshop/PSE

Today’s freebie is a set of fall glitter styles that I thought you could use for your Halloween kids and layouts. Each style comes in plain, gold edged and silve edged colors. There’s a 1200 x 1200 silver glitter tile in the DL also in case you can use it for anything. I still need to get back to the thumbprint characters too! Maybe this weekend.

Watercolor Photoshop Brushes and Overlays

Today’s freebie is a huge set of watercolor brushes that I created by scanning some brush strokes into Photoshop. They are meant to look like you are painting with water colors and are pretty transparent. Therefore if you are painting on a transparent layer the strokes will not show up. You will want to paint over a colored layer. Realizing that not everyone can use the Photoshop brushes, I also made a set of overlays using the brushes for the non PS/PSE readers. Enjoy!

CU Bracket Dings

I’m back! Things have been crazy with the kids going back to school and the little girl turning 5 last week. Today’s freebie is a dingbat font of hand-drawn brackets and journal lines. Here’s how it works: The capital letter A-Z corresponds to a left bracket. The same lower case letter corresponds to a right bracket. For instance Aa = a left bracket and right bracket of the same exact bracket. So there are 26 sets of brackets in this set and 9 sets of journal lines if you would like to insert them between the brackets. The journal lines are numbers 1-9. Make sense? Everyone loves the brackets so I thought I would make another set. I hope you like these!
