CU OK Old Paper Pieces

Today’s freebie is a set of some paper pieces that I “aged” with the coffee method.  Here’s an example of how to use them; I stamped some lines to make a journaling piece:

CU OK Stained Cardboard Pieces

I wanted to try out one of the methods of “aging” paper I found in this WikiHow. I brewed a cup of really strong coffee, tore up some cardboard and stained the cardboard with the coffee, then put the pieces in the oven.  My girls thought I was nuts! But they turned out pretty interesting. There were 15 pieces but the download was really big (the pieces are very large compared to what they look like on the preview.) Most are at least 9” and most are almost 12”. So I will zip up the second half of the stained cardboard for tomorrow! These would be interesting to “stitch” or “staple” on a layout I think.

CU OK Toy Building Blocks

Today’s freebie was another great suggestion from Nathalie over at Kitten Scraps. She asked for some Lego elements and I thought it was a great idea! I photographed and extracted a bunch of them and then removed the logo from each of the pegs so as not to get the Lego folks upset with me. You use them as borders or frames like these examples (which I also included in the .zip).  Also, feel free to recolor them to match your kits or layouts!

My Grungy Valentine CU OK Overlays

Well today’s freebie isn’t exactly what I had planned.  I bought some heart confetti and wanted to photograph and extract some “spills”. But the pictures didn’t turn out that good and I just became too frustrated when I tried to extract them. I was going to recycle the whole batch of pics but then decided they would be fine to use as overlays! There are three grungy overlays in this set. As always, play with your blend modes to get the look you want! You are never limited to “overlay” mode! (The first example in the preview was made using “hard light” as a blend mode).

CU OK Photo mask brushes and PNGS

I made today’s freebie from some paint strokes that I made and scanned.  They are meant to be used as photo masks by placing a photo above the mask and “clip” it to the shape.  Here’s an example:

And here’s the download links and preview: (It’s a big file so you can either delete the pngs or the .abr if you want to save HD space)

CU OK Crayon Layer Styles and Image Tile

I have been busy trying to come up with some new freebies, but life sometimes gets in the way! Tonight’s Freebie is a set of crayon layer styles for Photoshop/PSE and the grey scale seamless image tile I used to create them for those who don’t use Photoshop or PSE. Each color comes with a stroke and without. The preview only shows the stroked style. Here’s an example of what I did with the styles using my Doodle Hippo:

CU OK Valentine Patterns, Styles and Image Tiles

Today’s freebie is another set of Valentine layer styles and the patterns I created them from. There are actually no drop shadows on the styles but I added them for preview purposes. You can easily add the drop shadows if you like in PS/PSE. I also included the jpeg image tiles (1” by 1” seamless tiles) for those who cannot use the styles or .pat file.

CU OK Grunge Wallpaper Overlays

I came across this antique wallpaper sample book recently and found some very interesting textures! I photographed some of them and ran them through some Filter Forge Filters to grunge them up a little. There are 4 grungy overlays in this set and there will probably be more later this weekend.

CU OK Funky Wire Clips

The metal wires and styles were so popular the other day so I thought I would twist a new set of wires and make funky paper clips out of them. You can use these to clip a photograph or paper on your layout. You can also use the layer styles I included with the wires on the clips to recolor them, and/or you can add the beads to them!

CU OK Spiral Notebook Strips

Today’s freebie started out with a set of spiral notebook strips that I photographed and extracted. Then I thought it would be cool to grunge them up a little and make them look aged. So there are two sets of 10 strips in this download. One regular and one “stained”. Here’s an example of the stained strips in use (And I’m mad I saved it as a jpeg so you can’t really see the detail against the white background and didn’t realize it until too late.) If you click on the picture you can see the detail better.

How My Birthday Came and Went, Reviewing Portrait Professional

Yesterday I turned 41 and I had so many wonderful happy birthday wishes here, on Twitter, 4shared, FB, text message.. Thank you all! As many of you know, I work the midnight shift but have Fri/Sat nights off. What this usually means is that I stay on my work sleep schedule as much as I can and stay up until 2-3 am every morning. The one person who could not wait for my birthday was my 5 year old. For days she keeps asking me “Aren’t you excited?” She just couldn’t understand that once you get my age it is just another day. She came in and woke me up at 8am and wished me a happy birthday and then let me sleep for a little longer while she went down and watched cartoons. I heard DH stop home for a break (he’s the po too) around 9am and I then drug myself out of bed and downstairs for the big celebration. I opened my presents – an awesome new zoom lens for my new Canon Rebel, and some Bath and Body Works products.  Of course I had to try the camera out and was snapping some pictures of Kyleigh and Todd when he grabbed the camera and snapped some of me and Ky. UGH. No makeup, skanky hair, and about 5.5 hours of sleep. This made for a most unattractive photo. I was going to delete them but they were cute of Kyleigh so I kept them with the full intention of cropping my ugly mug from them.

This afternoon I was looking through a Popular Photography magazine and there was an ad for Portrait Professional. There was a coupon code for %10 off and offered a free trial download.  This evening I remembered the ad and went to the site for the free trial.  Of course I wanted to put it to the real test so I grabbed one of the horrible pictures from this morning and played with it in this program. All I can say is wow. This program is so easy to use. It walks you through every step and takes just a few minutes to give you a complete makeover! Well after playing with it I wanted to save it but you can’t save unless you purchase the full version. (I probably would have paid double what it costs, lol) There are two versions, the Portrait Professional which is $69.95 and a Studio Version which can be used as a Photoshop Plugin and supports Camera Raw for $99.95. I used the 10% Coupon Code in the magazine (PT4466) and saved $10 on the Studio Version.  See for yourself my results (and realize it took real guts to post this):

PortraitProExample

(click on the image for a BIG picture and don’t be too scared by my before picture!)

Pretty dramatic eh? I apologize for those of you who may have already heard about this software but I thought it was amazing and really it is so, so easy. I didn’t read any tutorials or manuals before doing this. My only issue is that when I purchased the program, it didn’t uninstall the trial version so I needed to do that but I guess it’s not that big of a deal.

Well, it’s now 330am and I need to finally get to bed before I turn into a pumpkin. I hope to have a new freebie posted for you later today!

CU OK Beads

I hope you all had a fabulous New Year! We had a great time with good friends and I spent the day relaxing and extracting! Tomorrow is another party event, my 41st birthday(on the 2nd)!  Here are the beads I thought would look neat on the metal wires I posted last. There are over 50 individal .png beads.
